Leaders, how can you model passionate purpose for us staff?

I want staff to flourish in terms of passionate purpose. My deep hope is that staff are experiencing…

1. Discussions (including celebrations) of the meaning, implications, and achievement of the purpose statements.
2. Clear connections between their job responsibilities and the achievement of the mission and outcomes.
3. Working with others to design action steps to help students flourish holistically—mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually (see Construct: Holistic Teaching, p. 14).
4. A living curriculum (leadership) that models Christ-centered passionate purpose.

This blog post  focuses on #4 above.

Leaders, we need you to model passionate purpose for us staff members! Why?

  • Because modeling passionate purpose helps both you and us staff members to flourish.
  • Because modeling passionate purpose gets us energized and focused on carrying out the mission.
  • Because modeling passionless purpose doesn’t help you or us.
  • Because modeling passionate purpose is a best practice.

Leaders, how can you model passionate purpose for us staff?

  • Lead us in fervent prayer about carrying out our Christ-centered purpose statements (mission, vision, and philosophy). Do this repeatedly—it’s fine for these prayers to be brief.
  • Regularly talk animatedly with us about our purpose statements.
  • Get us thinking about the purpose statements by asking us questions: What excites you about our mission? What’s one part of our philosophy that really resonates with you? How can I better support you in carrying out our purpose statements?
  • Remind us how you and we contribute to mission achievement by carrying out our job responsibilities. Then get us talking about how it’s going.
  • Help us frequently celebrate progress on the purpose statements. Make it fun! (As in, celebration = festive, not celebration = boring.)
